Principal Network Engineer

TS/SCI Clearance Required.

Results-driven professional responsible for the design and development of voice, video, and/or data communications networks in a high-paced environment.

  • Analyzes voice, video, and/or data communications networks, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting, and upgrading operating systems and protocol suites and configuring communication media with concentrators, bridges, and other devices.
  • Plans network layouts and configures systems to user environments.
  • Analyzes network topologies and traffic and capacity requirements.
  • Supports the acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services as needed.
  • May provide technical support and troubleshooting to users.
  • May perform network administration duties.
  • Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced network personnel and may have supervisory responsibilities.
  • May serve as technical team or task leader.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
  • Participates in special projects as required.
     
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
  • 8-10 years of directly related experience in network analysis and design.


This position works closely with Government staff in the engineering of mission critical systems and networks.

  • Advanced knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in network analysis and design.
  • Advanced knowledge of routers, switches, patch panels, concentrators, associated terminals, and related network hardware and software.
  • Advanced knowledge of desktop operating systems and applications.
  • Analyzes customer requirements to allow accurate technical specifications and engineering recommendations.
  • Assists with engineering solutions for customer mission networks.
  • Assists in the creation and updating of network documentation.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots networks during implementation of engineering solutions before transition to O&M.
  • Provides recommendations on technical solutions.
  • Supports project managers during all phases of project management.

A minimum of a current DoD 8570.1 IAT level 2 certification such as CompTIA Security+ CE in addition to a network certification.  CCNA required.  CCNP preferred.

  • Experience with Cisco required. 
  • Experience with Brocade desired.
  • ITIL Foundation certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Working knowledge of Visio preferred.

Active TS/SCI clearance required.
